VAT on an Irish invoice
Chippie runs in euro with Irish VAT, Irish addresses and Irish dates. Here is what that covers, and where it stops.
What Revenue wants on the invoice
Revenue sets out what a VAT invoice has to show: the date of issue, a unique sequential number, your full name, address and VAT registration number, the customer's full name and address, the quantity and nature of what you supplied, the VAT exclusive unit price, any discount, the breakdown by VAT rate, the total VAT payable, and the date the work was done.
A Chippie invoice carries the issue date, the invoice number, your business name, address, VAT number and company registration number, the customer's name and address, every line with its quantity and its VAT exclusive unit price, the VAT broken down by rate, and the total. The one it does not print on its own line is the supply date when the work was done on a different day to the invoice. Put that in the job or the line description until it has a field of its own.
The rates, and the one job Chippie will not do for you
The standard rate is 23%. The reduced rate is 13.5%, and that is the one covering certain building services, repair, and cleaning and maintenance work. Whether your own work sits at 13.5% is a question for Revenue's rate list or your accountant, not for us.
In Chippie you set the rate once, under Settings, Region and Tax, and it applies to every quote and invoice from then on. Leave the VAT registered box unticked and no VAT line appears at all, which is the right state below the €42,500 services threshold. What Chippie does not do yet is split one job across two rates. One rate per business is the whole of it today.
The two thirds rule
If the goods used on a job cost more than two thirds of the total price, the rate on the goods applies to the whole job, materials and labour together. Revenue calls that the two thirds rule and lists what sits outside it, including motor and agricultural repairs and some construction services.
Chippie does not work this out for you. It keeps your material and labour lines separate so you can see the split, and you set the rate.
RCT is not in Chippie
Relevant Contracts Tax is not handled. If you are a principal contractor, or working under RCT as a subcontractor, the contract notifications, the payment notifications and the deduction rates are not here, and Chippie files nothing to Revenue on your behalf. Do that side through ROS or your accountant, and use Chippie for the quote, the job and the invoice.
eInvoicing starts in 2028, and not with you
Revenue's eInvoicing mandate begins on 1 November 2028 with large corporates issuing structured eInvoices on domestic business to business supplies. A sole trader is not in that first phase. From the same date every business does have to be able to receive one.

Yes. Set your country to Ireland and every quote and invoice shows VAT in euro, with your VAT number and company registration number on the document. The standard rate is 23%; if your work is at the 13.5% rate you set that once under Settings, Region and Tax. The free plan is €0 for one user and 20 jobs a month, with no card. Professional is €15 a month for two users, or €150 a year. Team is €25 a month for four users, then €5 a month for each extra user.
Yes, and it is the same app. Chippie runs in the browser on Android and on a desktop, and on iPhone there is an App Store app as well. Nothing is cut down on one platform to suit another.
No. Relevant Contracts Tax deductions and notifications are not in Chippie, and it files nothing to Revenue for you. Handle RCT through ROS or your accountant. Chippie covers the quote, the job and the invoice that sit either side of it.

No. Chippie is built by a professional software engineer over a full year, not thrown together overnight. The core quote, job and invoice workflow is engineered to be reliable and fast, with AI kept as an optional extra rather than the thing the app leans on. It is tested every day on real carpentry and tree-felling jobs before anything reaches you. If it is not solid enough to run our own business on, it doesn't ship.
Chippie is built by an Australian family trade business that runs on it daily, not an anonymous app that gets abandoned when the founder loses interest. The same people who write the code use it to invoice their own jobs. They can't walk away from it without breaking their own business first. And you can export or delete all your data yourself, any time, so you are never locked in.
