Who licenses trade work in Queensland?#

How do I ask for payment under Queensland law?#

With a payment claim under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017, which is a specific document rather than an ordinary invoice. The Act was amended from 1 July 2024 by the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) and Other Legislation Amendment Act, so anything you learned about this before then is worth checking.

• A payment claim is a formal step with consequences for the party that ignores it, not a stern email.
• Head contractors claiming from a principal have a supporting statement obligation on top of the claim itself.
• The respondent answers with a payment schedule, and failing to answer has consequences for them rather than for you.

What is the QBCC home warranty scheme?#

Insurance the licensed contractor arranges, not the homeowner. Residential building work above the threshold attracts a premium you pay to the QBCC before the work starts, and it covers the homeowner for incomplete or defective work. Building the premium into the quote is the whole trick.
